Technology

The technology of Nettenergy is obtained from their own research an development activities. There is no collaboration with universities or other companies. This research has led to new technologies in the production and usage of flash pyrolysis on a mobile pyrolysis plant platform with a unique separation method. Its the best way to exploit waste wood and agriculture residue without harming the environment. Our 2nd Generation PyroFlash Technology allows us to transform the thermal energy contained in wood materials, where it has been trapped through the much-cited process of chlorophyll photosynthesis together with CO2. Pyro-Gasification, unlike combustion, does not emit CO2 into the atmosphere but captures it in biochar.

PyroFlash is based on its unique reactor design and innovative separation process distinguishing from previous generation pyrolysis technologies. It produces oil fractions directly from Biomass in its separation sector.

The PyroGasification technology is aimed at gasification of biochar and pyrolysis oil produced by the PyroFlash process. The gasification will yield synthesis gas (CO + H2) that can be used in gas engines to produce electricity and heat.

PyroCarbonization is the conversion of an organic matter into carbon or a carbon-containing residue through pyrolysis.

Fast Pyrolysis

Nettenergy has developed its biomass-based PyroFlash  technology themselves. This technology is based and  includes a unique reactor design and an innovative separation process. In this it distinguishes itself from the 1st generation pyrolysis technologies by producing separate oil and water fractions. This 2nd generation technology is marketed under the name PyroFlash.

The technology has several characteristics: Robust reactor. The reactor design combines high yield with high capacity. This design can handle a wide variety of biomass qualities. In addition, it is a keyturn solution for all appications.

Multiple products simultaneously

The pyrolysis technique is ideally suited to produce multiple products. The PyroFlash technology makes best uses of this characteristic. It can produce several oil fractions directly from the biomass in its separation section.

Compact design

One of the design criteria for this technology was that it should require little ground space and little height. This was needed to be able to build mobile plants. At this point NettEnergy have designs for a 2 tonne and 10 tonne feed stock capacity Mobile Pyrolysis Plants.

This mobile plant can locally convert Biomass into high  valuable  products. The fast start-up and easy operation makes the use at multiple locations in a short period of time possible.

Gasification

The gasification inside the PyroFlash technology is aimed at gasification of the biochar. The gasification will yield synthesis gas (CO + H2) that can be used in gas engines to produce electricity and heat. The gas can also serve as a feedstock for the synthesis of bio-based chemicals like ammonia and methanol. By using the Fischer-Tropsch process the gas can be converted into transportation fuels too.  Being only carbon the gasification process is easier to control and provides a stable gas composition. Water content in the feedstock as with biomass plays no role here.

The gasification is done with either an air/steam or oxygen/steam mixture depending on the application of the syn-gas.

Carbonization

Carbonization is the term for the conversion of an organic substance or a carbon-containing residue through pyrolysis or destructive distillation to Biochar. Biochar also known, is lightweight, black residue, consisting of carbon and any remaining ash obtained by removing water and other volatile constituents. The burning and natural decomposition of biomass and in particular agricultural waste adds large amounts of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. With Carbonization  we produce Biochar that is stable, fixed and its recalcitrant carbon can store large amounts of greenhouse gases in the ground for centuries, potentially reducing or stalling the growth of atmospheric greenhouse gas levels. At the same time its presence in the earth can improve water quality, increase soil fertility, raise agricultural productivity and reduce pressure on old -growth forests.
