Pyrolysis Oil from Pyrotech Energy

Bio-crude oil also known as pyrolysis oil is produced by our 2nd generation Pyroflash technology from woody biomass, or other suitable (with sufficient lingo- cellulosic biomass) that is, by the rapid heating of biomass in the absence of oxygen. Because of this rapid warm up “evaporates” the biomass in a large number of long carbon chains with a result of a dark-brown liquid known as pyrolysis oil containing a very low amount of ash and has a volumetric density 5 to 20 times higher than the original biomass.

About 30-40% of the energy in the solid biomass end up in the oil. More important is that the water content and the higher heating value (3% in Dry Oil and with  HHV 24 MJ/Kg). It contains less nitrogen than petroleum products and almost no minerals and sulphur components improving stability by lowering the combustion temperature and as consequence it lowers its NOx emission upon combustion. Combustion of pyrolysis oil in a boiler or furnace and turbines for the production of CHP (Combined Heat and Power) is the most straight forward  application.

Pyrolysis oil limitations do not stop in applications of heat and power production or liquid fuel. Derivatives of high value chemicals can be utilized  in the petrochemical industry as products such as tar, adhesives and plastics. The consensus is that biomass is the only renewable  source of carbon which can replace eventually conventional crude oil as a feedstock for these products.

Pyrolysis oil can replace heavy and light fuel oils in industrial scale. As a result the oil can be used in industrial oil fired boilers in power plants or in modified internal combustion generators to create power and electricity or it can be used in conventional oil refining processes being processed into bio-fuels.

Another interesting application were pyrolysis oil can be utilized is in marine propulsion making it one of the few alternatives to fossil fuels that are commercially attractive by been tested successfully in stationary diesel engines with a minimum upgrading cost as engines and fuel systems need to be changed with stainless steel application due to the acidity levels of process in  production.

Wood Vinegar is an all natural livestock deodorant derived from plant extracts. The skin friendly plant chemicals bind themselves to odour causing agents on the animals body and waste, effectively breaking down, absorbing and transforming them into a natural acidic state and destroying and suppressing bacteria, viruses and other odour causing pathogens. The result is a non-stimulating deodorisation that is non-toxic and leaves no residue, creating a good  bacteria forming environment that is healthy and fresh for your livestock.

Also studies showed that when charcoal and wood vinegar were used as feed supplements in poultry, salmonella bacteria which are responsible for gastrointestinal diseases of chickens were eliminated. In chicken egg production, farmers claimed that their hens improved their egg laying production, had better rearing characteristics and improved their hatching efficiency. It is also improved the quality of eggs such as better taste, reduces cholesterol content and had harder egg shells.

Studies on swine production showed that sows improved their performance. They became healthier, their fertility rate improved and piglet size became uniform. The fatteners, also improved their feeding efficiency and meat quality. The foul odour from the manure of the pigs was also reduced. Furthermore, reports from farmers indicated that their sows increased their milk production and diarreha among piglets were prevented and cured.

In cattle it is reported by farmers that wood vinegar also improved meat quality, fertility rate, milk production and feed efficiency.
