Mobile pyrolysis plants are standard equipped with a dosing silo on top of the installation. The biochar is removed from the reactor with a screw conveyor, the liquid products are pumped. The syngas can be sent to flare for thermal use or used as a gaseous bio-fuel connected to a gas generator for electricity production.
Typical Yields
For feedstock with 15% moisture content the yields are typical:
Product | w% of feed |
Biochar | 10 |
Wet Oil | 5 |
Dry oil | 20 |
Wood Vinegar | 25 |
Syngas | 40 |
Bio-Crude Oil | Biochar | Wood Vinegar | Syn-gas |
Fuel 24 MJ/kg | Fuel 28 MJ/kg | Pharmaceuticals | Fuel 6.5 MJ/kg |
Chemicals | Soil Improvement | Replacement for chemical | Electricity Production |
Bio-Aromatics | Carbon Sequestration | fertilizers and pesticides | Hydrogen Source |
Coating | Water Purification | Compost Enhancer
Bitumen | Plastic Filler | Increases Seed Germination
Marine Fuel | Stimulates plants & Vegetable growth |
For other biomass and moisture contents yields will be different
Dimensions
Pyrotech Energy offers mobile units that can be taken to the source of the biomass. We offer two capacity ranges:
Capacity (MTPD feed) | Size Container (ft) | Power Consumption (kWh) |
2 | 20 | 5 |
10 | 40 | 25 |
Trailer mounted or 20ft container =LxWxH 6×2,4×2,6m; 40ft container =LxWxH 12×2,4×2,6m
To the unit, a top silo needs to be added which increases the height with 1 extra meter.
The syngas is typically sent to the flare for thermal applications or connect to a generator for electricity production or can directly be used to dry the biomass. The drying unit is outside the scope of the installation.
Option Gas Generator
The syngas can be used to feed the gas generator.
With the gas generator, the mobile unit can be made self-supporting in its electricity usage. The unit is LPG started and when the syngas is produced the gas generator takes over the electrical power requirement. No diesel or connection to the electrical grid is required.
Capacity (MTPD feed) | Gas generator (kWh) net |
2 | 10 |
10 | 50 |
With the gas generator, the mobile unit is a net producer of electricity.
Feed system
The mobile unit is standardly equipped with a top silo for biomass feeding. This silo can either be manually fed but one is advised to use a large upfront silo, a 10m3 for a one-day continuous operation for a 2 MPP installation followed by a conveyor belt, or a 50m3 or combination of 5 x 10m3 silos followed by conveyor belts for continuous operation to feed a 10 Ton MPP unit.
The silo must be fed with biomass with a typical size between 5<x<15 mm and 15% moisture content.
Labor Requirement
The mobile unit requires one person to operate. When an upfront silo is used this person needs to fill this silo 1x/day and replace the production storage tanks when they are full. For the 2 ton MPP storage tanks replacement takes place every 3rd day of operation, for the 10 ton MPP the preferable storage procedure will be to directly store the liquid biofuels (bio-crude oil) and liquid bio-chemicals (wood vinegar) on a silo trailer ready to be shipped once they are full. A 30m3 silo trailer is sufficient to be typically full after 10 days of continuous operation limiting the labour only to replace the solid biochemical (biochar) storage tanks once every 24 hours.
The operation of the unit is by touch screen panel using built-in start-up, operation and shutdown logic.
The decision about installing pyrolysis units on a mobile configuration is driven by multiple factors including project location, timing, permitting, operational schedule and local labour costs.
Mobile pyrolysis plants provide several advantages related to quick installation, facilitated transport and modular construction of the plant. This type of plant is suitable for fast, often temporary applications designed to be moved or rearranged after a time-period, shipped or stored long-term. Because of it’s portable and standardized construction, Pyrotech Energy mobile units also have a small footprint recommended for limited space areas, projects constraining non-interference in local infrastructure and avoiding costs for investments requiring building work or remaining under particular law regulations.
The MPP are by nature flexible, versatile, turnkey operations ( plug & play) and could be easily applied either as a portable solution or in a bolt in configuration with their compact design avoiding building costs or civil works and can be very easily scaled up in a parallel formation to meet the demand of feedstock process.
